How to Build a Full Bourbon Weekend Around Sept. 10–13, With or Without the Festival
Two kinds of readers end up here. Some of us tried for Kentucky Bourbon Festival 2026 and came up empty; every VIP tier and the Weekend Taster general admission sold out weeks before the gates open. Others got in, but only for the Sunday Sampler: one four-hour window on the festival’s shortest day. Either way, Sept. 10–13 doesn’t have to shrink down to three days of feeling excluded from the festival and trying to fit all your fun into a single afternoon. The distilleries around The Bourb Inn are open the entire week.
What’s Actually Open Without a Ticket
KBF’s Marketplace and Bourbon Capital Bites food area are open to the public all weekend. No festival admission is required, per the festival’s own FAQ. The ticketed part is the distillery sampling booths and the programming inside the festival grounds; the shopping and food areas sit outside that gate. If you’re passing through Bardstown that week regardless, it’s worth a walk-through even without that precious wristband.
Build Your Own Bourbon Weekend
The real answer, though, isn’t standing outside Spalding Hall. It’s the Amber Triangle cluster of distilleries surrounding The Bourb Inn. All are closer to the cabin than Bardstown is (that’s just under an hour away), and of course, none of them require a festival ticket:
- Whiskey Thief: 7 miles / 10 minutes
- Buffalo Trace: 16 miles / 27 minutes
- Castle & Key: 20 miles / ~25 minutes
- Wild Turkey: 19 miles / 34 minutes
- Four Roses: 22 miles / 35 minutes (less than 20 minutes from Wild Turkey, an easy same-day pairing)
- Woodford Reserve: 22 miles / 34 minutes
If You Only Have the Sunday Sampler
Then that means your Sunday from 12–4 PM is already planned. That leaves Thursday, Friday, and Saturday completely open, plus Sunday morning before the gates open at noon. Three full distillery days ahead of a four-hour festival close-out is a great bourbon experience which we hope will make up for the loss of missing out on your desired KBF tickets. You can pair Wild Turkey and Four Roses one day, Buffalo Trace and Whiskey Thief another, and save Woodford or Castle & Key for whichever day fits your pace best.
